Cemindia Wins Bengaluru Suburban Rail Viaduct Contract
WHAT HAPPENED
Cemindia Projects, the Adani Group-backed firm formerly called ITD Cementation India, has won a Rs 665.61 crore civil contract, excluding GST, for Package 1 of the Mallige Line, Corridor-2 of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project. K-RIDE issued the letter of acceptance on 29 October, and the work has a 24-month timeline. The package covers 7.795 km of elevated viaduct and ramps between Benniganahalli and Shettyhalli, including a 1.2 km double-decker rail-cum-road flyover along Mohan Kumar Road between Mathikere and Yeshwanthpur, a station at Mathikere, and extra works at Hebbal, Shettyhalli and Yeshwanthpur.
WHY IT MATTERS
The award moves the Mallige Line forward on the 148 km suburban network that K-RIDE is building. K-RIDE also gave Corridor-4 (Kanaka Line) Package 1 to the RNS-GPL joint venture for Rs 342 crore, and Package 2, a 13 km at-grade stretch from Heelalige to Bellandur, to RNS Infrastructure for Rs 169 crore. With contracts now on two corridors, the project is moving from paperwork to sites you can see.
EXPERT VIEW
The double-decker flyover is the risk point in this package, because it ties rail and road works together on a busy arterial road and any slip hits both. A 24-month window for nearly 7.8 km of viaduct is tight, even for a contractor with deep elevated-works experience. We expect visible barricading or piling on Mohan Kumar Road within six months, and we expect the package to need more than its 24 months to finish. Confidence: medium.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
If you drive the Mathikere to Yeshwanthpur stretch, plan for roadworks over the next two years and follow K-RIDE notices for diversions. If you run a construction or supply business in Bengaluru, note that Cemindia and RNS now hold packages and may be lining up subcontractors.
